Photographer and visual artist Güneş Kaplan's first solo exhibition in London, “HIDDEN LIVES: What Memory Leaves Behind,” has opened to art lovers. The exhibition, which opened at Gallery Marquess in Mayfair on September 25th, can be visited until October 1st.
The exhibition, curated by London- based independent curator İlayda Uzunarslan, opened in Private View on September 25th, bringing together guests from the art and culture world. Beliz Türpçü, Deputy Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in London, also attended the opening.
Kaplan's work focuses not only on the function of photography to record a moment, but also on the lives outside the frame and the traces left by memory. The exhibition features photographs taken from everyday life, people, and places; these are explored through themes such as the past, belonging, absence, and lived experience. The conceptual framework of the exhibition is related to Henri Cartier-Bresson's "The Decisive Moment" approach.
THE EXHIBITION INVITES THE VIEWER TO LOOK BEYOND THE IMAGE.
The title “Hidden Lives” refers to lives not directly visible in the photographs but existing in the background, while “What Memory Leaves Behind” focuses on the relationship between photography and memory. The exhibition invites the viewer to look beyond the moment shown in the image and at the traces left behind by that moment.
Born in Elbistan, Güneş Kaplan , drawing on a background in sociology, explores the relationships between people, space, and memory through photography, painting, and material-based productions in her interdisciplinary works. A member of the Royal Photographic Society (RPS), her work has been exhibited in Turkey and on various art platforms abroad .
HIDDEN LIVES: What Memory Leaves Behind can be visited at Gallery Marquess, 3 White Horse Street, Mayfair, London W1J 7LF, between September 25 and October 1, 2026.
